Can I do anything for you?
Posted: 07 Feb 2008 12:40 PM CST
Today’s sentence
Hello again. We’re still looking at questions using modal verbs.
Can I do anything for you? Notes
Can is used here to offer something. The sentence means: “do you want me to help you?” Possibly a friend has invited you to dinner and is working in the kitchen. It’s polite to ask: “can I do anything for you?” (Do you need any help / can I help you?) Remember: it’s a question! It’s not: “I can do anything…?
That’s all we have time for today. See you tomorrow!
