You have made absolutely no 'progress. (stress is on the first syllable) If you want to pro'gress, you’ll have to work harder. (stress is on the second syllable) _________________ con·text - The part of a text or statement that surrounds a particular word or passage and determines its meaning. |

Hi there,
Can you help with this?
" This room is quite small, we could use it as the office. There’s not enough room in the case for your dressing gown."
Is room in above sentences one word or two? Are there any teaching implications?
Thanks. |

Do you mean does the word 'room' in the first sentence have the same meaning as it does in the second one? It doesn't.
In sentence 1 room is a countable noun for an enclosure/place/chamber within a building. In sentence 2 it indicates a space which can be used for something and it is uncountable. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |
