A question about 'make valuable' #1 (permalink) Mon Mar 02, 2009 7:35 am   A question about 'make valuable'

Hi everybody,

I have a question about the usage of 'make valuable'. I have two sentence below and each of them contains this term--make valuable. I'd like to know what it means.

1)Let me know if commercial reason makes valuable this trip of Susan to Hulunbeir.

As for me, it means:I would like to know if Susan travel to Hulubeir because of commercial reason.

2)Children Make Valuable Mobile Phone Users.

It seems to me that: Children become the potential/majority users of cell phones.

Do I get it right? Please correct me if I am wrong. Many thanks :)

.
1)Let me know if commercial reason makes valuable this trip of Susan to Hulunbeir.-- This sentence is ill-formed. However, it is just an inverted form of:

Let me know if business makes this trip to Hulunbeir valuable to Susan. = The trip has business value.

2)Children Make Valuable Mobile Phone Users.-- Children are important cellphone customers.

So I think your understanding of both sentences is accurate.

In other words, before doing something you should know that action you're planning will be profitable in the future.=)
