Unexpected reasons vs unknow reasons #1 (permalink) Wed Mar 11, 2009 4:04 am   Unexpected reasons vs unknow reasons

Hello everybody,

I would like to know if unexpected reason and unknow reason are equivalent in meaning? I also want to know if these expressions exsit or sound natural to you. What do you think if I say:

I sent you an e-mail yesterday, but for some unexpected reasons, you didn't receive it.

I sent you an e-mail yesterday, but for some unknow reasons, you didn't receive it.

Have you got any alternatives? Please correct me if you find any mistakes in my post. I'll really appreciate it. Thanks in advance. :)

I would not use 'unexpected reason' especially when you are talking about an email being lost somewhere. Instead I would say --

I wonder why that email hasn't reached you. But I sent that yesterday itself.

And it could be phrased this way --

I don't know why you haven't got that mail yet. But I sent that yesterday itself.

Natives could have better explanations and a few more alternatives too :)
