What is the minimum requirement to become an English language teacher, and which certificate would that relate to.?

Is the TOEFL certificate sufficient for this when related to teaching young children aged
6 / 11 years.?

Sorry Jamie, you are correct in your response.

What I really meant to ask was" What is the minimum certification required to be able to teach English to children up to the age of 12 years ? ".

I am in Germany, if that make any great difference.

Thanks for any information that you might offer.

I think the certification is going to depend on where you're wanting to work, and who is hiring you.

Each school or company offering a particular job you're interested in applying for will have its own set of standards, depending upon the demands of the job. Some countries will have standards set by local, state, or federal governments. Private schools and public schools may likely have different standards.

If you're interested in teaching English there in Germany, I'd start by contacting the Ministry of Education in the respective state you're interested in working.

If you're interested in teaching in another country, do some research and see where the responsibility for education lies. They will be the ones who set the standards.

If it's for a private language school, (in any country) research who's in charge of hiring, and ask them what the particular job requirements are.

Hi Skrej and Jamie. My requirement for a certificate is not in the hopes of securing employment, as at 70 years of age I accept that that would be an impossible task.

I simply want this qualification to show folk that I am qualified to help their young children at home, assisting with their homework.
