Hi everybody,
How do you read "1500s". And "1950s", is it nineteen fiftys or the fiftys.
Also, can we use "1994s". If your answer is yes, how should I read it.

Thanks,
Manal

As Milanya stated, 1500's is read as 'fifteen hundreds'.

As for 1950's, if you include the 19, read it as the ' nineteen fifty's '.

You will see '50s, without the 19, which is read as 'the fifty's'.

No, you cannot say '1994s', because 1994 is just one year, not a span of years. It's specifically limited to one single year. You would just have to read it as 'nineteen ninety four'.

'The 1500s' refer to a span of years, anytime between 1500-1599. Correspondingly, the '50s are a span of years from 1950-1959.

Hi Manal

The year 1500 would normally be pronounced as "fifteen hundred", and yes, the year 1905 would be generally be pronounced as "nineteen oh five".

Take care

As a rule, it is read two thousand (no -s- at the end). It is either the year two thousand or two thousand dollars.
