How do you pronounce 'odds'? #1 (permalink) Fri Mar 20, 2009 9:08 am   How do you pronounce 'odds'?

Hello everyone,

I'd like to know how to pronounce the word 'odds'? Do you pronounce [d] in [ɔdz]? I listened to a audio file which comtains this word. It seems like that [d] in the word is soundless and odds shoud read [ɔz]. :?

..

odds = The likelihood of the occurrence of one thing rather than the occurrence of another thing, as in a contest
e.g: The odds are that she will get the nomination on the first ballot.

it can be pronounced as (ódz)

Good morning Shi.

You are aware that " odd " is not the singular of odds, and has a completely different meaning .

Odd = peculiar, or strange.

" That's an odd smell."
" He is an odd kind of person ."

Hope you are keeping well.

I note that you continue to improve. Remarkable progress in such a short space of time. !

Good morning Bill, ( it's 17:50 here in my area)

Thank you for your detaild explanations, I'll bear in mind that odds is not the plural(openly, I thought it was) form of odd and they are different in meaning. :)
