The most-recent thread in any given forum shows the least-recent thread as being the one which is more recent than the current one. I think this might cause confusion, and could be easily resolved simply by not showing any thread as being "next". The identical argument holds for the oldest thread in a forum, although I suspect that those are less of an issue. Wink

Hi Bill,

May be, we (falsely) believe that we could contain the time in that circular clock....a futile exercise Wink

Hello David,

I don't understand your point. Could you please explain?

Good morning Gray, merely a joke to David.

Though we could make something deep out of it, I was joking too Wink

Is the Big Bang also the Big Crunch? #7 (permalink) Sun Mar 29, 2009 1:07 am   Is the Big Bang also the Big Crunch?

Sorry, folks, I was being terse.

In the upper-right corner of each discussion thread, there are two links: The thread which immediately precedes the current thread, i.e., the "next oldest", and the thread which immediately succeeds the current thread, i.e., the "next newest". The threads are sorted simply based on the time that someone last posted to each thread... except for the very oldest and newest threads in each forum.

On the very newest thread in a forum, the very oldest thread is shown as the "next newest", and on the very oldest thread in a forum, the very newest thread is shown as the "next oldest". This implies that time is circular, i.e., the least-recent event will follow the most-recent event, and vice versa.

Special code had to be written in order to accomplish this, and I was gently implying that doing this does not add any value. Thus, my suggestion was to simply not display the offending link for these two special cases.

Somehow, this song seems appropriate, even though it doesn't do much to help explain my point. Wink
