A thought for today. #1 (permalink) Mon Mar 23, 2009 4:31 am   A thought for today.

Good morning everyone. It is 0400 hrs here in Germany, and I am having a sleepless night.

It happens quite often to people of my age, and it is then that I really appreciate having my computer, as I able to traverse the globe anywhere my thoughts take me.

Very often I see, and hear, and read things that make me so sad that I weep.

Old age does not always bring contentment, it is often accompanied by frustration and anger, and I feel that this is often viewed by others as intolerance. It isn't really.

It is just the realisation that as an individual, you cannot do anything to change what is happening around you. You are merely a tiny dot on Google Earth. A nothing, but a nothing with feelings, and dreams and hopes.

The passing years bring a change in your dreams and hopes. The dream of a nice house, a lovely family, money in the bank. Now these dreams have become more about that which you hope to see in others, the ones you love.

Looking back brings no comfort either. The mistakes you made, the hurt you inflicted with your words and deeds.

But there is no magic wand that you can wave to make all of these things right again. You did them. You said them. Now you must face the consequences of of your actions.

Looking around I see young folk following the same path as I followed. It has been their for centuries, and has guided many foolish folk along it's winding track.

The quest for riches and the good things in life. It should have a huge warning sign at its start saying, DANGER-PITFALLS AHEAD.

Actually it has, but in our ignorance we choose to ignore it. We ignore it because we have not yet reached that age of maturity which we fool ourselves into believing we have.

I think of my wise old grandmother, who tried to tell me what I was doing wrong. But I was intolerant, because I knew better. I never did, and I paid very dearly for ignoring her advice, and then, I continued to wander along that well-worn trail to nowhere.

So, I would only add to this maudling tale, do not be too hasty to pour scorn on the advice of your elders. They went down that trail many years before you did, and they surely know where the potholes are. Heed their advice. You may just make it to the end as a well balanced, rational adult.

Anyone can be old. You only have to live long enough.

If only I'd known that night that there was a real person somewhere quite so far from my location experiencing very similar emotions, maybe a bit different thoughts, due to a little difference in age , but basicly the same, I wouldn't have left it for myself. I've approached the time of my life when I vividly see that life is not endless as it seemed some time ago and I feel love and fear so vitaly strong that it touches and tortures me deeply.

Good Morning. If I had known that you were awake, we could have had a chat as I wasn't sleeping either. My trains of thought went into a different direction though. Cool

Good morning Shyone. Why not put your thoughts on paper, right here on the Forum ?.

I'm sure we would be interested in just what your thoughts are / were.

A completely anonymous medium, where you can air your frustration about both the things and people that intrude into your life.

I don't know. It's more a personal than a general problem, and I have to make up my mind before this week runs out. Perhaps, if I don't sleep any better the next night, I will come here and have a good rant.

Sure, no despair. Just a break of emotions... and fears. I've got too much things to do to frustrate in daytime.

Vetty, I find that if I face the very worst that can happen, and accept that, then the fears subside with the acceptance.

Plan what you can do to allay the worst, and then stop thinking about it.

Face each problem as it arises, not before. Sometimes nothing happens.

Remember, today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday . Foolish I know, but foolishness is sometimes the one thing that saves us from madness. Take care.

I pretty much agree with everything you said, Kitosdad, except for this:

It is my opinion that each of us really can make a difference... sometimes just with one other person, and sometimes for much more. We all have a choice in this, and if you choose to make a change, you will.

What will you choose?

David, I do agree with your sentiment. Even if we all were able to change the outlook of the person/s next to us, we would still be but a tiny dot on Google Earth.

Each heart is capable of only a certain number of beats in your lifetime ... when that number is reached, that is it. Olympic athlete or invalid, that's your lot.

You can be viewed as the most fantastic person on earth by those around you, yet within
two generations you are just an ageing photo in an album.

What is it all about ?. That is THE question.

Some say that the time of coming back, and the goal to be achieved (the lesson to be learned) is a choice. I believe that also, this way life makes a lot of sense.

We have a beautiful song here and I am trying to translate it --

Even the eyes filled with dreams,
cannot close themselves in peace.

Nothing reaches the mind,
when we seek and not find.

A difference for whom, and what for. Finally, nothing is important but your idea of how this world works for you as no one knows exactly and no one cares. In your mind only your concept of really matters. Socially, only your activity, work, deads ( may be inspired by your consciousness) might mean something for someone but again only for a very short period of time ( thanks god, because sometimes what was completely right for you today is completely wrong for you tomorrow )
