Difference between round, circular, and spheric? #1 (permalink) Wed Mar 25, 2009 16:16 pm   Difference between round, circular, and spheric?

Hi everybody,

I have two questions :

1) what's the difference between : "round", "circular", and "spheric"?

2) To my understanding both following sentences are correct :
a) S.O.S is the abbreviation of "save our souls".
b) S.O.S. is the abbreviation for "save our souls".

What is the difference in meaning between using "of" and "for" in the same sentence.

Thank you in advance.

Circular is flat, spheric is 3D, round can be both.
A plate is circular and round, a ball is spheric (spherical) and round.

Hi Si2007,

I would use 'for' in your sentences. It has the sense of 'this abbreviation stands /these letters stand for ...'
