Hi,

can you please make clear this phrase for me? Please if I say for example about an digital camera, it is "as common as it gets", what does it mean? That the quality of the photos produced by that digital camera correspond to the low price of that camera? I heard this phrase in this conversation: Person A: "Were you able to get anything from that photo?" Person B: "Taken by the instamatic camera. As common as it gets".

thank you.

Hi PeaceMaker,

The expression: as common as it gets means that it can't get any more common/ any more ordinary. In other words you can't find a camera that is more common or more basic.

When you talk about a situation that is very difficult and it reaches that stage when it is at its worst stage, you could say: This is as bad as it gets. In other words things can't get worse than they are now.
