TOEFL Reading Section Scoring Wed Jul 06, 2005 15:39 pm  TOEFL Reading Section Scoring

Hi Fellow TOEFL Test Takers Cool ,

I am taking the Computer Based Test next week and I am still confused how the scoring works.

If we take the reading section as an example and assume that the test taker gets 50 questions and answers 30 correct what will that be in the actual TOEFL-Reading-Section-Scoring.
As 30/50 means that the test taker answered 60% right it should be 18/30, but it's not, right?

So how does the scoring work if we take this example?

Does it also depend on the difficulty of the questions? As far as I know the computer selects the next question depending on the result of the prior question. Does this also apply to the reading section?

Hope you can help me. I'm confused.

Thank you very much in advance.

-------------------------------------------------------------
Listening: 30 to 49 questions ----> Listening: 0-30
Structure: 20-25 questions ----> Structure/Writing: 0-30
Reading: 44-55 questions ----> Reading Comprehension: 0-30

Hi,

ETS won't reveal the precise formula for calculating your reading score of the TOEFL. The question is how important is this information to you?

Well, I would be great for me to know how I need to score in the Listening-, Reading- and Structure-Section (let's say essay gets graded with 4.0) if I need to match at least 213 points.

What would you say, how many points do I need to achieve in each part? Rolling Eyes
