The word for today is :- NEGATIVITY. #1 (permalink) Sun Mar 29, 2009 12:20 pm   The word for today is :- NEGATIVITY.

Negativity is what you bring to yourself when you subconsciously decide, " I can't do that."

Our brains have a bias toward negativity, simply because it is easier to dwell on the things that you think you couldn't do, as opposed to the possibility of the things that you are well able to do, and to do well at that.

This was brought home to me earlier today, when I was " talking " to a couple of my new friends here on the Forum. They were discussing their lack of self confidence in regard to their command of the English language.

My first instinct was to agree with them, and to sympathise, but that would have been VERY negative.

Here were two non-native people posting on an English website, and at the very same time complaining that they were not confident. How negative is that.? OK, there were spelling mistakes and grammatical errors, but so what !. They were DOING IT, and at the same time saying that they had no self confidence in doing it.

I would ask them to think back 6 / 12 / 18 months ago. Have they advanced in that time ?. I'm pretty sure that they will have done so.

Nobody said it was going to be easy, but just look have far they / you have progressed in that time.

No confidence ?. You are surely joking. No negativity allowed here on this Forum.
