Is physical punishment allowed or not? (corporal punishment)
Lady and gentleman,
Good afternoon. In my humble opinion, corporal punishment is that we, human beings intend to punish a person when our kids and students have misbehaviors or change his/her behavior. Historically speaking, most forms of punishment, whether in judicial, domestic, or educational settings, were corporal in basis.
In my view point, I totally disagree to have corporal punishments. First of all, I think corporal punishment is cruel for students or kids. Looking for the view of psychology, I think everyone has his/her self-respect and if parents or teachers use corporal punishment, such as slap or hit, it would definitely hurt them in their mind. Absolutely, we maybe ask children or kids more well if we punish them when they have misbehaviors But, it’s a fast way to control kids or students, but not a best way to educate them. In my humble opinion, I think we need to be more patient in educating our kids or students. We are people, and time to time we are not perfect. We do learn from mistakes. We still need to learn how to do most things more well. Another disadvantage of corporal punishments is about people’s psychology. For instance, when you give your students or kids penalties, sometimes that’s not because they really make mistakes, that’s probably because we don’t control our emotions very well possibly. We think we are educating them, but we are just relieving our angers. Nevertheless, how can we do that for them? How can we hurt them that just because we are not children or students but parents and teachers?
According to the Global Initiative which ends all corporal punishment of children hopes to achieve full prohibit of all corporal punishment of children worldwide in 2008, at least 87 countries do not prohibit the use of corporal punishment in schools, and 150 countries do not prohibit it within alternative care settings. So I think, needless to say, we should ban corporal punishment definitely completely.
The disadvantage of not have a corporal punishment is that kids and students will learn more for a long-tern plan. I urge that if kids and students have misbehavior, we need to educate them but not punish them instead. We need to explain for them why they can not do that thing and what if they do it, what kind of thing will happen. Also, in my view point, I think education is that the action what students or kids see from us is more impressionable more than what you teach them. That means if we want to ask student or kids to do something correctly, we need to show it firstly. If what we say is one thing, and what we do is another thing, for instance, if we don’t recycle for our environments, how could they recycle for our environments? . Moreover, if we get used to have corporal punishments to teach students or kids, they would do the same thing when they become teachers or parents. It’s an endless badly circulations. It effects not only themselves, their later generations, it also effects our societies. Whenever, students or kids were punished, their self-respects would be affected easily. They probably do something very terribly in the near future.
You see, now many tragedies have happened for social news. Although, we think it has no reason that some people kill another person they don’t know well. Do you remember the news that a guy who is from German and killed his parents recently? It’s really a tragedy indeed. Nevertheless, I think it probably has some reason, such as their parents use punishment to him/her, something like that. Thankfully, corporal punishment has been legally banned in 23 countries. As a brief summary, we very hope that we can educate our students and kids very well. However, education is important, and the most important thing is how to educate them. We need to think of the best ways those kids and students really need. Therefore, our societies will be much better and warm definitely. We can get a healthy life as well. Thanks for your attention.
