What - if any - are the differences between 'annually' and 'yearly'? Perhaps one is more UK English and the other more US English? Anyone any thoughts on this?

Hi Ardec,

''Annual' (annually) is more, if you like, the official word for 'each year' and is used in expressions like: annual report/annual meeting/annual audit and so on. And of course this applies to the adverb 'annually'.'Yearly' is one of those strange words that looks as if it should just be an adverb but it is the same spelling for both adjective and adverb. It is used in a more informal way but also means 'each year' as in: The chess club meets yearly or The yearly meeting of the handicraft group.

Thanks Alan! I work with scientific texts, so for me annually would be more suitable.

Good morning Kitosdad,
Yes, working away again - thank you for the compliment; the setting was in my friend's garden - beautiful, indeed.
