TOEFL essay: The most important aspect of a job is the money a person earns #1 (permalink) Sun Apr 05, 2009 16:10 pm   TOEFL essay: The most important aspect of a job is the money a person earns

The most important aspect of a job is the money a person earns. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Everything in modern society is based on money. As the saying goes, money makes the world go around. There is no doubt that choosing a job is an important decision that we face later in our lives. When we have to choose an appropriate job we have to take several aspects into consideration, such as the experiences one gains from that job, the prospect of the job and the personal development. A lot of decisions are affected by money, but when it comes to job offer negotiations, in my opinion, money is not the most important aspect.
To begin with, it is often argued that earning more money enables people to exert influence over others. It may be true but there are people who do not aim at being superior. Moreover, from their career many pleasures may emerge- social recognition and personal achievements. I believe that these factors should not be underestimated when discussing the most important aspects of job.
Secondly, as we all know being poor is not very much fun. Thus, many people who live in miserable conditions want to have jobs with higher salaries, in order to improve their way of living. For them, money definitely is the most important aspect of a job. However, there is nothing wrong with that because money undoubtedly is a means of survival.
In my opinion, the most important quality of a job varies from person to person. Surely there are many reasons for taking a job, such as for professional respect, for the passion to serve the society or improving the social status. For instance, there are devoted teachers who consider teaching a noble career and their aim is to see the students becoming successful people. Moreover, these teachers are not demoralized by their low salaries because for them the devotion and passion to teach is more essential than their income.
On the whole, although there are those who would rank money as the single most important thing in job, I would disagree. Money has an important part to play but perhaps the world would be a more harmonious place to live in if the society put more emphasis on moral issues when choosing a job.

and their aim is to see their students becoming successful people.

There is no doubt that choosing a career is the most important decision that we will make when starting out in our working lives....... better ???

That may be true ,

from their career ,

to serve society

nothing wrong with that ,

teaching a noble career ,

by their low salaries , because for them ,

Money has an important part to play,

in if society were to place more emphasis on moral issues when choosing a job.

Minnie, I find it so difficult to imagine your being so young, yet so accomplished. No doubt that you are destined for a great career.

My above editing is only nit-picking, but eh, we are seeking perfection here, are we not.?

(The commas are the points were I should pause for emphasis, were I to be making the presentation.)
