Tackling square root questions in quant section of GRE Mon Jul 11, 2005 9:22 am  Tackling square root questions in quant section of GRE

Hi
I have a doubt regarding questions involving square roots. Suppose I have a comparison quetion with one term being square root of 3 and other 0, should I take the value of root 3 to be + 1.732 or -1.732.This is a very simple example but there are questions where I face such ambiguities. Though I havent come across one from PowerPrep, I see such questions in other tests. Kindly advise.
Regards

I read somewhere that if the sqrt sign is included in front of the number, it is automatically positive. If on the other hand u have a comparison like x^(2) vs 0, you cannot assume that x is positive or negative (unless otherwise told), so the D option will be correct. Hope this helps.

No, A option is correct because sqrt(x) >=0;if x*x=4 then only we have to consider that x=+2 or -2
