I've don't believe I've ever heard anybody actually use the word 'hyphen' in such a case. It sounds unnatural or at best an overly dramatic attempt to be robotic.
Often, unless it's particularly necessary for clarification, it's not even mentioned, just read as is. "The DV4 one thousand."
If the mark is mentioned at all, I think it's far more common to hear it called a 'dash', as in "The DV4 dash 1000."
Technically, you should be using a dash anyway (a specific width of dash called an figure dash) when separating numbers, instead of a hyphen, but that's rather a fine stylistic distinction. _________________ Plan to be spontaneous tomorrow.

I agree. The conversation would often go something like this,
"I want to buy a KDL55XBR8."
"Hrm, that's odd; I can't find that model number."
"Oh, well, the exact model is KDL (dash) 55XBR8."
"Oh! Here it is.... The price is $4675."

Good morning Skrej, I hear it being used quite often. A dash is more readily understood in this context than say, slash. Hyphen is a dash in my opinion.
Hope you are keeping well. _________________ If you need me, I'm here. |
