Good morning Ganesh, hope all is well with you.

Here the phrase is being used to illustrate the feelings of a person who wishes he had the " good life " of another person. He feels this when things are not going well in his life, but all appears to be much better in the other persons life.

" It's all right for you " ( is another way of expressing this ) you have a nice house, car, family."

The reality is not always so, believe me .... I've been there. Smile Smile

The moral of this story is, be happy with what you have. You can make it better, but not by envying what others have.

Take care Ganesh. Kitosdad.

Good morning Ganesh.

" I've been there ". ( I was rich, once upon a time. ) Simply put, it means never take things at face value. Similar to, " first impressions ", things are not always as they appear on the surface.

Many millionaires are envious of your simple life-style. They have become trapped within a world of their own making and can find no way out, at least, not one that they wish to adopt.

Howard Hughes was the most intelligent of billionaires. He had untold wealth, but chose to remain anonymous, moving amongst the normal workaday folk, and doing many good deeds with his wealth, whilst remaining a secret benefactor to the recipients of his generosity.

Sahid, thank you for your comments, but I ask you to be not so hard on Jamie.

He is indeed a very educated young man. He is responsible for the teaching of many hundreds of students, and is therefore exact and precise in his thoughts, and he is right to stand by his beliefs.

His " youth " gives him the vigour to defend his American way of life, and I applaud him for doing so.

My standpoint is that of a typical English " man in the street " view of America, and the general populace therein. Loud, brash and arrogant in the extreme. I too defend my right to state my opinion, uneducated or not.

Jamie is a good guy, and is serving a much-needed function in his role as a teacher.
I wish him well in spite of our differences, and I apologise to him if I have offended him.

Kitosdad.
