A word is just that, a single word. An utterance is simply something vocalized, it could be a word, a sound, a sentence, or even a short speech. _________________ Plan to be spontaneous tomorrow.

A sentence usually contains several words that function as subject and predicate. An utterance is a spoken word or sentence. By the way, please note the difference between 'difference' (noun) and 'different' (adjective).

| Shouldn't we say "A sentence usually contains several words that function as the subject and predicate."? |

I would say: A sentence usually has several words that form a subject and (a) predicate, or, A sentence is usually composed of a subject and (a) predicate. However, I am curious and unsure whether the subject and predicate is possible for identifying several words?

To continue this theme. Can anyone answer this?
1. Find a single sentence that can be used in multiple utterances. 2. Find a single utterance that can correspond to more than one proposition. 3. Find a single proposition that can be expressed by more than one sentence. _________________ Keep it simple ... Keep it interesting. |
