COM-PLACE-ENT, contented to a fault; self-satisfied and unconcerned, indifferent.

Are we not all guilty of being, or of becoming, complacent.?

You know, that self-satisfied " knowledge " that someone else will probably do that which you yourself should rightly be doing. And this " knowledge " in most cases points to our Mothers or wives.

We guys know that our wives or Mothers will surely have our meal on the table when we return from our daily labours, or our favourite shirt, all washed and ironed, so that we can shoot-off out looking all dapper. How complacent we are that this will surely happen.

We are totally indifferent to the many problems that may have occurred in their day, whilst we have been " working like dogs. "

Not for us the queueing at the cash desk in the Supermarket, or the heavy bags having to be carried home, all alone and unaided. Then to the preparation of the meal, and the tidying of the house. The hoovering, the washing-up and drying, the making of beds, the washing to be hung from the line, only to be taken hurriedly back in with the onset of a shower.

Not we, we are complacent. It will be done. OK, we could have helped by calling into the Supermarket on the way from work. We only needed a list, and we were in the car .. no problem. But, why bother.? Someone else will surely do it.

Whatever will we do, if one day our Mother or wife is no longer there to do it.?
Complacency will disappear out of the nearest window, to be replaced by blind panic and bewilderment.

Stop being complacent. Look around to see just where you can help. You never know just when your complacency will desert you.

ps. Give blood ... don't be complacent by leaving it up to someone else. You may just need it yourself one day soon.

Kitosdad.

Thank you, Bill.

You just have given me an opening to something I want to do, but don't rightly know how to go about it.

A while ago I joined care2, a website where petitions are published for everyone to sign.

Whether it is the refuge of the Polar Bear, an enforcing of a law in Africa, you name it, and they are all good causes. This morning I received the request to sign a petition on behalf of all children, concerning Polio, a disease we do not often think about because in our regions it's nearly wiped out, but in Africa it's on the rise again, and could in the long run affect us.

It only takes a few minutes to sign this petition, but they might be the most important minutes in a child's life some time in the future. I will add the link here with the hope that some of our friends here overcome Complacency

________________________________________________________________________

Dear Friends,

I have just read and signed the petition: "Support the Global Eradication of Polio".

Please take a moment to read about this important issue, and join me in signing the petition. It takes just 30 seconds, but can truly make a difference. We are trying to reach 25000 signatures - please sign here: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/337374455

Once you have signed, you can help even more by asking your friends and family to sign as well.

Thank you! Andrea

Thank YOU Andrea for some comment on this feature. Although it does seem to attract some readers, not many care to leave a comment. I'm not asking for praise, merely an acknowledgement that the article is helping someone to a better understanding of what I am rambling on about. Smile Smile

I have signed your petition, and am happy to have done so.

Take care. Bill.

Thank you for signing. Every signature helps others somewhere in the world.

I, too, have been complacent for a long time, but after coming across this site I realized, I'm not only living in Ireland, I live in this whole world, and things happening somewhere else do affect me, too.

That's when I decided to join care2. I receive mail about the causes that are most urgent in the moment, and no matter how busy my schedule is, I always find the time to sign a petition, or sometimes two, to make the world we live in just that little bit better, not only for me, but for all of us.

And I hope, that when in the future I post a petition like this here, that there are a few people signing it, making our world a world worth living in, for all of us.
