A test is a more formal in-depth analysis or diagnosis. A check is a quick inspection, verification, or appraisal.

Pulse: the regular beat of blood as it is sent around the body by the heart. The number of times the blood beats in a minute. It can be felt in different places especially on the inside part of the wrist.

Andrew started to worry so pulse became quicker.
