Make for Sun Jul 17, 2005 13:26 pm  Make for

.
make for (inseparable): go to or toward.

"Her teen-aged children are always hungry. As soon as they arrive home from school, they make for the refrigerator."

It is a common phrasal verb, but its use generally implies some effort, energy or difficulty involved in moving toward the (usually physical) goal.
