Can we write 'I had been playing with the children live around my house for...?' #1 (permalink) Wed Apr 22, 2009 18:53 pm   Can we write 'I had been playing with the children live around my house for...?'

Dear Friends,
I have some questions
First
How different are they between query and enquiry
Second
I was then about seven years old. I had been playing with the children living around my house for some years
why we put 'then' into I was then about ...
Can we write 'I had been playing with the children live around my house for some years' ?
and why we wrote 'living' instead 'live'

" I was then about seven years old. I had been playing with the children living around my house for some years "

Presumably you are telling a story, and therefore what you are telling and writing is correct.

'" I had been playing with the children live around my house for some years' ?" NO.!!

With the children who lived around my house is OK.

You write living because that is what they were doing ....... living, not live.
They did live around your house. They were living there.

You could also have said, " I was about seven years old at the time." instead of then.

Good morning Khan,

" I had been playing with the children, who had lived around my house for some years'. "

or,

" I had been playing with the children, who were living around my house for some years'."

I admire your determination to come to terms with this difficult terminology.

Your friend, Kitosdad.
