Meaning of "next Wednesday" Mon Jul 18, 2005 11:00 am  Meaning of "next Wednesday"		  
If I am speaking to someone on a monday and refer to "next wednesday" which wednesday would the listener assume that I am referring to? I have always considered that "next" refers to the very next item in line. Am I right or is my wife correct in stating that the "next wednesday" in my example would refer to a week on wednesday?

Well,

In your case you are probably talking about this Wednesday while next Wednesday would be Wednesday in a week.
