"My change in party affiliation does not mean that I will be a party-line voter any more for the Democrats than I have been for the Republicans."

Could anyone please tell me what the sentence in italic means? Confused What does "a party-line voter" mean? Thanks in advance.

Certain political parties tend to vote a certain way on any given issue. The party takes a stance, and most members of that party will vote the same way. This is called voting along party lines.

The speaker (it is Arlen Specter, formerly Republican Senator from Pennsylvania, now a Democratic Senator from Pennsylvania) is saying that just because he has switched to being a member of the Democratic Party, doesn't mean that he will necessarily vote the way all Democrats are supposed to vote.

Hello Skrej,

"I will be a party-line voter any more for the Democrats than I have been for the Republicans."

This sentence suggests that he didn't use to be a party-line voter when he was a Republican. Am I right?
