He thrusted a dagger in her stomach and twisted it around while she writhed in pain.

Are thrustand twist fine in the above sentences? Can I replace thrust with jab or plunge or lunge? Are there any better words than twist here?

The past form is 'thrust'. 'Lunge' is no good; it is intransitive. 'Around' is redundant and seems awkward here. I cannot think of a decent synonym for 'twist' here. Everything else is OK (except the violent image).
