Difference between 'will' and 'would' #1 (permalink) Sat May 02, 2009 6:24 am   Difference between 'will' and 'would'

Dear Torsten,

I am confused about the use of words "will" and "would" in future tense.
Please tell me the difference in these sentences-
"I will do that course."
"I would do that course."

Thanks in advance,
With regards,
Mahesh

I'll try.

A : What will you do tomorrow?
B : I will go to school library.

Then on the next day, C meets and asks A.
C : A, did you see B yesterday?
A : Yes, I did. B told me that he would go to school library on the following day.

Is that so Mr. Torsten?

Dear Yuyu,

Thanks for your example. It simply indicates that "will" is used when talking about future in present moment and "would" is used when talking about future in past moment.
But I want to know the difference between will and would when talking about future in present moment or conversation. For example-
A lectrurer says in his class
"we will finish this chapter tommarow"
and
"we would finish this chapter tommarow"

I'm not sure of that but this is the way I see it.

I wouldn't say just "I would do that course" - I'd say "I would do that course IF.." or "BUT...".
I will do it (for sure).
I would do it if someone/something didn't distrurb me. - so here's the II Conditional. I would do something if some condition is made.

I would do it but no one shall give me the money for it. - I wish but I have no money.

Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

" I will ". - positive decision.

" I would buy that car, if I had the money ". - conditional.
