Dear Sonda,
You could improve your English too by not using chat room lingo. Your sentence should read:
'Yes, you are right, this is a good way for you to join this forum. Here you can improve your English'.
People in this forum want to learn proper English and not abbreviations. Those are good for text messages on the phone, but not here. _________________ No comment |

Shyone, thanks for that: my pedantic self was about to kick some tail.
So if you have a moment, I'd like to ask you a question or two about Erin:
1) Is it really as green as it appears to be on postcards?
2) When Guinness is served in an Irish pub, does the bartender trace the shape of a clover in the head (froth)?
3) What is the general opinion (in the Republic) of Irish unification? Is it something people discuss every day or is it something that comes up in conversation only once in a while?
4) What's up with the Cranberries?
5) Have you read "The Hound Of Ulster"? I grew up in Minocqua, Wisconsin (lakes and trees -- people from Chicago spend their summers in my hometown) and my sixth-grade English teacher read to us the tales of the Hound, Cuchulain. He pronounced it "kuh-HOO-lun". He also read "Beowulf". I thought that Cuchulain was tougher -- killing his best friend and honoring that friend's request to be laid with his heart facing one side of the river (or whatever the details were -- I've semi-forgotten) -- that was cool. He could fell seven men with his right hand tied behind his back. But seriously, Cuchulain's was prolly my favorite "hero" tale. Thanks a ton,

Good Morning Tom.
Now that is a load of questions early in the morning.
First off you have to understand that I'm not Irish. I'm German and I live here for neigh on nine years, so the politics question is one I can and will not answer. I have a very strong opinion myself, but there are things that will not be discussed in public: politics and religion.
To 4: I have no idea as to what you could possibly mean.
To 5: No, I haven't read that book (yet)
To 1: You have to really see it to believe all the different shades of green that exist here. After all the time I've been here now, it still amazes me sometimes.
To 2: Barmen in general here are to busy for the shamrock thingy, but for tourists they still take the time to do it. The Irish don't really care about it as long as it is a good pulled pint. _________________ No comment |

YES! It's all about the beer (bier).
4: The Cranberries are (or were) an Irish group who had several hits, among which were:
Zombie Linger
And crap, I cannot recall the rest. I did buy one of their CDs, but that CD was stolen some years back and (thus) is no longer a potential fact-checking resource. hehe
But hey, I was in 8th grade when Sinead O'C hit it big. "Nothing Compares To U" (don't laugh, Fers-- you know you liked it back then too) was huge. She was huge.
As for politics and church-speak, that's cool -- I was only asking for a general "feel" of the ROI on that issue. It seems to me that it's one island and at least logistically there is an argument for that emerald isle to be one nation. But it isn't my thing -- I figure that if Rangers and Celtic (Scottish clubs) fight over it, things must also be important on your island.
Well hey, I appreciate your answers. Now do your adopted country proud and pick up a Cranberries CD! hehe _________________ Billie Jean is not my lover. Hee. |

#5 - "The Hound of Ulster" is the tale of an Irish legend, Cuchulain. I enjoyed it. Granted, I was maybe 12 years old when Mr. Gravelle read it to us, and I wanted to identify with heroes... but mayhap (archaic: perhaps) you'll enjoy it. Apparently Cuchulain was a big dude in Irish lore.
Have a good night, Shyone. Gut nacht, mein lieb. (what is "friend" in Deutsch?) _________________ Billie Jean is not my lover. Hee. |

Well, if you want to say: 'Good night my dear friend' it would be:
'Gute nacht meine liebe Freundin'.
If I was male it would read:
'Gute nacht mein lieber Freund'. _________________ No comment |

Dear friends, 'let's welcome the new member "Kadum" whom he is one of my students "an active student" in fact. He wants to improve his language especially in conversation. In fact, he is very good in grammar but he needs to communicate with native people of the English language.. Therefore. Accept him as one of this family
