How is "may" used in past, present and future tenses? #1 (permalink) Mon May 04, 2009 5:18 am   How is "may" used in past, present and future tenses?

I have doubts in the use of model "may"

In past,
"He might have bought that car."
In present tense,
"He may buy that car."

When talking about future,
"He may be buy that car." or
"He might be buy that car."

Are the above sentences correct?

.
In past,
"He might have bought that car." --OK
In present tense,
"He may buy that car (now)."-- OK

When talking about future,
"He may buy that car (tomorrow)."

Assuming of course that we are using "may" in the context of possibility.

But in the context of "permission" it would be ....... no no not me!

This question is for another guru!

smile ... anyone?

In past tense: He may have bought that car but I bought the new tyres so we could register it.

I would not take the context as permission Phil !

e.g.

He "might" have bought that car, but I bought the new tyres so we could register it.

Try again ...smile
