Who is referer?

In an application form I have to fill in, I came across the following field.
"Please provide Referer information" Does anybody know who they mean by a referer?

In my opinion 'referer' is a misspelling of 'referrer'.

And referrer would be the one that made you aware of this application, whatever it is for.

Also could refer to someone whose name you have put forward as a character witness.
