I have a question: why should it be "lasts" instead of "last" here? Doesn't "last year" mean just "previous year"? I don't understand what's wrong with the "last".

Hi Violino,

'Lasts' is the third person singular of the present tense of the verb 'last'.

Look at the sentence:

This kind of hike usually refers to travel, on foot, through rugged areas and normally lasts several days.

Both 'refers' and 'lasts' are verbs.
