Got to vs. have/has to? #1 (permalink) Fri May 08, 2009 15:25 pm   Got to vs. have/has to?

Hello everybody! I'm new here on this forum.

My question is simply about, what's the difference between saying 'I got to go' and
'I have to go'.

In my ears, it's like both sentences are correct, and the meaning of the sentences are also the same?

Can someone explain me the difference?

You would say I've got to go, or even just 'got to go'. The meaning is the same as I have to go.

In the United States, "got to go" is often pronounced "gotta go".

BUT in formal writing it should not be written that way... it's only spoken that way.

I have to go, I've got to go, or got to go.

I got to go? I would not say that.
