In German the word 'mensch' refers to a human being, while 'menschlich' refers to being humane.
So it's a wild guess that 'menschy' goes in this direction somehow. _________________ No comment |

| American English uses the Yiddish word "mensch", which means not just a person, but "a person of integrity and honor". So a "menschy dame" would be a slangy way of saying "a woman of integrity and honor". |

Sounds like Yiddish mixed with film noir. _________________ Plan to be spontaneous tomorrow.

I think the sound was intentional on the part of the speaker.
I thought it sounded more like Yiddish spoken by the Rat Pack in Vegas. |

A few years ago, I spent a summer working at a residential summer camp, which had kids from 8-15. Of course the youngest kids weren't at all interested in the opposite sex, but the teens and pre-teens were all desperately trying to explore as much of the opposite gender as possible...
On that note, one day I happened to notice a kid who was in the 13's or 14's age group, approach a couple of girls sitting at a nearby bench. The kid had his hair greased back a la Travolta in 'Grease', walks up with his hands in his pockets, (thumbs sticking out), pitches a James Dean slouch, and says to the girls in his best "cool" voice, "Heya Dolls."
The girls weren't much impressed, but I nearly wet myself laughing. _________________ Plan to be spontaneous tomorrow.

Note to ESL learners: Guys, don't try what you see in the movies! |
