Flora and fauna in the Philippines is diverse, being a tropical country, coconut tree abound. Considered as the “tree of life” because of its versatility, the importance of coconut tree cannot be ignored, from its leaves down to its roots it is useful for food, shelter and medicine.

Firstly, for food, coconut milk is popularly used from main dish to dessert. For instance in chicken curry, it is the primary ingredient. It is very nutritious and contributes to its sumptuous taste. For dessert, it is added with sugar, to make a delectable pudding. In addition, coconut juice is a good thirst quencher.

Undoubtedly, coconut tree is a good source of construction materials for houses. Coconut lumber, for example is used as a post which serves as a foundation for a house. In rural areas, a typical house is mostly made from coconut tree. For example, fronds are woven and serves as the roof and wall while coconut trunk serves as the post and floor. From coconut shells, fashion accessories are made as well as buttons which are used in shirts.

Recently, virgin coconut oil is becoming popular as a supplement in treating many forms of ailments. It is believed that it can cleanse the body from toxins, boost the immune system and also good for the heart . As an additive to many products ranging from cosmetics, shampoo and soaps it is considered beneficial to having a healthy skin.

To sum up, coconut tree is an important plant in my country since it is as good source of food, to build houses and for health purposes.

What plant is important to the people in your country?

Some months ago I took an MBA course on the internet, since I did not have the opportunity to go to the university due to my children’s health problems. However, the course did not help me a lot because I was unable to organize my schedule and substitute my home duty with my education. Also, I have difficulty with understanding some parts of the information. Therefore, I strongly believe that traditional methods of studying can be more beneficial for students than learning at home on the internet.(86)
The main reason for my opinion is that teachers have an important role in the educational process; internet and nonliving machines can never replace the work that teachers do in the classrooms. In fact, they explain a new subjects and give students the opportunity of asking questions. On the other hand, if students study at home, they want be able to clarify difficult parts of materials. In addition, there is another important issue related to the studying at home; students have to organize their schedule by themselves and they have to decide how much time to spend on each point of a subject. However, they do not need to worry about the organization part of their studying process when they go to school , because that is the part of teachers’ work.

Another reason for my believe is that classmates also take place on assimilation process. In fact, they discuss some important points made by the professor in the classroom, express their opinions and shear their thoughts. Therefore, when students go out from the auditorium, they already now the subject on 50 pure cent. In addition, sometimes students think that they understood the teachers’ explanations. But after they classmates ask questions they realize that not everything was clear for them.

Finally, schools mean more than just the institutions of getting knowledge. In fact, students meet other peoples, make friend or fell in love. They learn how to cooperate or compete with their classmates. In other words, they learn the real life. Who is going to teach students these simple things if they stay at home and use internet.
