There are two sentances below,
1 is said to be right grammatically
but 2 is NOT right.
I want to know why 2 is not right to say.

1. A friend of mine phoned to invite me to a party.
2. A friend of mine phoned for inviting me to a party.

Native speakers do not use 'for + gerund' in this sort of purpose adjunct; it seems to be a favorite of English learners, for some reason.

1) we phone somebody for smth (N)
Eg: She quickly phoned for an ambulance.

2) we phone somebody to do smth (V)
Eg: He phoned to ask me out to dinner.
