I'd like to know what you guys and gals think the coolest advances in science will be in the next 100 years. It's not necessary that the advanced technology be based on existing technology, but it would be nice if it was at least plausible (whatever that means). I'll get the ball rolling with my list:

1. Artificial Intelligence - It will be able to fly planes, drive cars, etc. I'm not suggesting consciousness, but I am suggesting orders of magnitude improvement over existing systems. I think this will happen because as we understand the brain better, we can apply what we know to AI.

2. Robotic Replacement Parts - Stronger arms and legs, at first fake looking and then gradually looking more and more real. Already the influx of soldiers who have lost limbs from the current war in Iraq has created a large market for these products and advancements in robotic technology seems like it's getting better all the time.

3. Biological Replacement Parts - Need a new heart, just grow one in a lab and do a transplant.

4. Creation of an extinctinct species from DNA - Currently Scientists are analyzing the DNA of Neanderthals from bone fragments. Once the mapping is completed, how hard would it be to modify human DNA to match Neaderthal DNA, then implant that DNA into and egg and develop the new life.

5. High Speed Internet accessible anywhere on Earth with a push of a button.

6. Mind control remotes. Tired of using that mouse to surf the web? Tired of the exertion required in pressing the buttons on the remote? Don't worry in, in the future, you can just use your brains. Electrodes, either remotely or directly will read the electrical impulses in your brain, which will adapt extremely quickly to the new tool it has.

7. Nuclear Fusion- Tons of energy for cheap will make businesses much more efficient while reducing greenhouse emissions to almost nothing.

8.Self replicating robotic factories and nano factories.

9. Quantum computers with true 3d displays.

10.The demise of cash.

11.Electro muscular therapy for aged.

12.Intra-cranial image transmission (cyber to organic).

13.Genetic regeneration of limbs and organs.

14.Quantum harmonic drive - travel at light speed.

15.Electric-laser weapon - uses ionizing laser to form path for plasma discharge.

16.Construction Robots - heavy equipment especially.

17.Cad & voice command driven Construction Laser Level - self propelled and autolevelling. also captures as-built data.

18.Digital books on flexible digital paper.

That's my list, you'll notice it doesn't have flying cars. That makes me angry since I expected I would have one by now but I guess we're gonna have to wait for some breakthroughs in science.

I welcome comments on my list. What would your list have on it?

Best regards.

Salam
