Telling our parents was heart- wrenching. Friends would ask "why" and we didn't have the words. We endured sleepless nights when hundreds of question raced through our minds. How do you teach a child who is blind to walk, feed themselves or read? Where do you start?

1.heart- wrenching

2.endured
3. raced

please explain this paragraph and meaning of the above words

A fool can be educated. An uncouth person is beyond help.

Telling our parents was heart- wrenching (very difficult, causing great sadness). Friends would ask "why" and we didn't have the words. We endured (suffer through, to carry on through despite hardships) sleepless nights when hundreds of question raced (to run, move, or go swiftly) through our minds. How do you teach a child who is blind to walk, feed themselves or read? Where do you start?

IMHO (no context) a young couple had a blind baby and it was very difficult for them.
