Willow, both are OK. If you were to replace " go " with " drive " or " driving " it would appear even more clear.

Both are correct, however the meaning is slightly different.

Watching my life's first love going off -shoes the action in process.
She was going off and it was painful.

Watching my life's first love go off - shoes a completed action. She has gone off and it was painful.
