What is the plural of "next of kin" #1 (permalink) Thu May 14, 2009 15:41 pm   What is the plural of "next of kin"

I have a next of kin (which as I understand it can only be one person). My friend also has a next of kin (which is someone else). How would I describe those people - our "nexts of kin" sounds so wrong, as does "next of kins", or do we just give up and talk about our closest relatives?

What is the plural of "next of kin" #2 (permalink) Thu May 14, 2009 15:49 pm   What is the plural of "next of kin"

Next of kin: The person who is (or persons who are) most closely related to a given person.

So 'next of kin' is also the plural.
