Hi! This is Uwe from Taipei-taiwan.
I've tought English for more than 8 years. Since it has become very difficult for schools to find a teacher without the use of an agency, I founded the website taiwan-taipei.com. We provide free advertising for schools and teachers. The posting and viewing of all ads is for free.
We don't make any profit from your information.
If you're looking for a job in Taiwan come and visit us.
there are many schools calling us because the advertising of our site focusses on the schools. to place your ad visithttp://www.taiwan-taipei.com/cgi-bin/taiwan/cms/classified/taiwan_taipei_ads.pl?eingabe to see our website go to http://www.taiwan-taipei.com

Hello Uwe,

Thanks for sharing your experiences and plans with us. What might come in handy is some background information on Taiwan itself. Here in Europe I have often run into people who would confuse Taiwan with Thailand.
Also, once you have posted your website address here on our forum you might as well tell us why you chose to move to Taiwan and what is life like now in Taipei.

Hi! There.
I'm born in Germany. And I basically grew up there. Since I did not want to join the army I moved to West Berlin. After the wall came down laws have changed very quickly so I was forced to go to the USA for some years. My English was very poor at that time and I had great difficulties getting along. Then I moved to Spain for two years and studied Spanish. When I turned 32 and a half year my legal problems with the army ended in Germany so I went back to Berlin and lived there for a year only to find out that I could not stand it.
After another short live in the USA visited Taiwan and attended Chinese classes for two years. During that time I fell in love and married a Taiwanese girl 7 years ago. Teaching English has become too commercialized in Taiwan since then. I do not agree on that. It actually disgusts me a bit. You can see on my website these gold rush postings 70 000 55000 wow super big money year!!!!
When I came to Taiwan there were a handful of world travelers who got stuck teaching English here but now the agencies want to control all the schools and kindergartens and teachers. They make it more and more difficult for schools to find a teacher without them. So I founded my website and advertise it here in Taiwan. Only problem the advertising I did focused the schools not the teachers. And now my telephone ringis all the time and I say sorry I am not an agent you can place your ad on our website. And the agencies are spamming the schools looking for teachers section. I have to delete these disgusting ads every day. 55 000- 75000 or 80 000 make money now yeah!! A social teacher would not go for this kind of ad. So tell me what are they looking for? What king of people do they want to bring here?
I know that’s a lot but you asked for it.

Teacher mafia? Sun Jul 24, 2005 19:40 pm  Teacher mafia?

Hello Uwe,
Just read your story and am quite impressed. I understand you left Germany because you didn't want to join the army, I take you were born in East Germany? How did you manage to get to the states and how did you get by there? And now you live in Taiwan, how do you like it there? How often to you go back to Germany? Judging from your description the English teaching business in Tapei pretty much seems to be controlled by a ring of agencies. When I attended English classes here in Canada I got to speak to some teachers who had worked in Asian countries and they told me similar stories. Sometimes it sounded like there was some kind of Mafia calling the shots. I think it's good that your are trying to challange those teacher agenies in Taiwan!
See you!
PS: Is Uwe your real name? How do you pronounce it and what does it mean?
