Since time immemorial, in order to survive in the wilderness, people have been forced to do many dangerous things. At first, during the Stone Age, without weaponry, people had to confront dangerous animals, and other fears, like darkness of the night, vast seas and oceans, floods or avalanches.
Later on the biggest enemy for man was another man, who was armed and thirsty to steal and kill. In keeping with this train of thought, I would say that with today, when the World is much more civilized, some consequences of the human past have a big influence on some peoples behaviour.
First of all, the dreadful consequences of two World wars pacified mankind. Today people prefer to live peaceful life ( lives ) obeying the law and order. This way of life gives us the opportunity to fulfill, at least, some of our dreams, and to support our family without fear that something can happen to them.
On the other hand, human history is much different from the life we live today. For a long time our civilization had to fight hard for its survival and advancement, and, in my opinion, it is quite normal that many people still keep this feeling in their blood. Excitement, but also a wish to achieve something that nobody before us achieved, is a driving force for many people. For example, people today do not fight in Roman Arenas with wild animals or against Nubian slaves, but they still compete in TV shows using the rubber trident or club.
Moreover, mankind would never discover anything if we lived in constant fear. Hannibal was very brave when he tried to cross the Alps on elephants in order to surprise the Romans. In addition to that, for many, Columbus was crazy when he left Europe with an aim to discover the new route for India. But all ( of these)this examples, show how clever people can be, and how we dare to do something (that)what is not run-of-the-mill. Desire to be the best or first is in our blood, and that has helped us in our development.
In conclusion, I would say that (the)attraction to practice dangerous sports or to do something different comes from our nature. We are fighters, and we are always trying to prove something to ourselves, to our families or to the whole World, and this is precisely what people who practice the extremes have on their mind.[/quote]
Dragan, a good essay. Well thought out and clearly stated. ( Underlined not needed.) _________________ If you need me, I'm here. |
