Chapter 4.
The doctor counted me back from my hypnotic state to reality. It was in my best interest to go along with this charade and to let him believe that I really had been " under."
" So Tom, how do you feel.?" " That was great Doc " I replied. " Maybe I'll be able to get another good nights sleep tonight again." " Let's hope so Tom, I'll see you again next week. Bye' for now." I just couldn't wait to get well clear of the surgery .There was a great deal to think about, and I certainly needed to make some plans about just what I was going to do about this situation. One thing was certain. I'd murdered someone, and the doctor had controlled my doing it. But how could I offer that statement as any kind of a defence? Just who the hell was going to give that fairy-story any credibility? The doctor was a well-respected celebrity and I was a nobody.
It was almost dinner-time so I headed back to the cosy diner where I'd breakfasted earlier. Sitting by the window, I was forking the food aimlessly around the plate when I was surprised to see my friendly receptionist from the previous night. She smiled and entered the diner and came and sat at my table with me. " How are you?" she smiled. " Still worried about last night?" " Not really " I replied, but in reality I was worried sick. " Well you don't look at all comfortable " she said." You look as if you have the worries of the entire world on your shoulders. "
My mind was buzzing over. Was I able to take this girl into my confidence? I certainly could do with some help and advice, and she had already proven herself as someone to turn to in a tight spot. Before I could utter a word she said, " Did you read about the murder that happened last night ?" Now I was in a panic. Maybe this bright girl had put two and two together and was thinking that I had some connection to what had happened. After all, I had been out rather late, and the policemen had brought me into the hotel, only leaving after being indirectly assured that I had only been out of the hotel for ten minutes. Would he put some connection on my late-night wandering? Things were looking decidedly dodgy for me............................... _________________ If you need me, I'm here. |
