Good morning to you all.

I am curious as to just why you do not sound the "T".

Do you also say soften without the " T"?

Kitos.

Well Bill,

I do believe that I learned it in school that way, but it's too long ago to remember.

As to 'soften', you tell me. Razz

Yes I definitely remember that we were taught to say ɒfn not ɒftən and I was quite surprised when I heard native speakers pronounce the 't'.

everybody just learned how to pronounce something from the dictionary even the teacher that we had in our elementary, high school and college years, duhhh.
there is a guide in the dictionary how you pronounce the word. If you think it is not perferctly good tell me! It is still O'fen silent T.

often OR ofen #15 (permalink) Thu Nov 19, 2009 4:13 am   often OR ofen

Hello Dear Teachers and Friends,
I listened to the audio of Sue (session 15 Don't and does not) and found it very interesting. Now one confusion in vocabulary is that she uttered the word "often" as 'often' but as per my knowledge it is pronounced as "ofen" means "t" is silent. Therefore, it has become problem for me that how to pronounce it,with( t ) or without (t).
Regards.
