Taking my remaining courage in both hands I looked straight into her eyes and said, " I have something I want to tell you, but in telling you this I'm placing my life in your hands."

Her eyes opened wide in alarm, but slowly she relaxed and put my fears at rest as she replied, " I thought something was bothering you deeply, and I give you my word that whatever you tell me will remain between you and I."

I took a deep breath and told her the whole story, including my recent suspicions about the good Dr. Maybe. She sat there silently for a while and for a panicky moment I had visions of her shouting, " Call the Police ... he's a murderer," but she still sat there considering my grizzly tale. Eventually she spoke. " I thought there was something strange about him when he came and told me that story about you walking abroad in the middle of the night."

Becky thought for a few moments and came up with an idea. Not much of a one, but better than nothing.
" I usually work the evening shift, so if you were to sit in the foyer overnight, then I could keep you under close scrutiny and stop you from going out if the doctor were to
call you." As I said, it wasn't much of a plan, but it was all that I had to work with.

That evening found Becky and I facing each other across the foyer. The huge lounge chair that I had chosen to occupy was very comfortable, and I'd spent far worse nights than this in Korea. The very thought of them made me shudder.
" Are you cold Tom? " asked Becky.
" Just a little," I lied.
" I'll nip into the kitchen and make us both a nice hot coffee then," and with that she disappeared from my view.
The handy in my pocket chose this exact moment to buzz. I felt compelled to answer it.
" Hello," I said. " It's time Tom," said the deep voice of the Doc. It seemed I had no resistance to disobey. I stood up and headed for the hotel entrance .....................
