" Do you ........ hey, where are you going Tom?" was the cry from Becky. It halted me in my tracks, but I felt light-headed and strange . I wanted to go out but Becky's voice had brought me back to reality. " I don't know what happened, I just had the feeling that I had to leave the hotel and go somewhere." " You're not going anywhere that I can't keep my eyes on you," she replied." You just sit back down and we'll have our coffee's." I did as she asked, but the strange feeling persisted. I really should be going. I had something important to do. This feeling was so strong in my mind that I was having great difficulty in shaking it off. Settling back in my lounge-chair I slowly drank my coffee. Becky meanwhile was looking at me with grave concern on her face.
The door of the hotel swung open, and to my great alarm the policeman from the previous night entered. His eyes scanned the foyer, and seeing me sitting there he walked toward me. My heart was racing fast and I hoped that my alarm didn't show on my face.
" Ah, good evening Sir, still not sleepy again?," he asked. " Not really officer. I only need a few hours sleep, and anyway, I like Becky's company." He looked over at Becky and gave me a knowing smile. " I can't blame you for that Sir," he replied." I did hope to meet with you again as I wanted to ask you a couple of questions about last night. I suppose you didn't see any suspicious characters loitering around, did you?"
" Not really. It was raining heavily as you are aware, and I was only gone for a few minutes. Most of that time I had my head down against the wind and rain. You were the only person I saw in the whole time."
" OK Sir, just thought you might have been able to help us. I suppose you read about the MP being murdered last night. It wasn't far from here. You might have had a very lucky escape, as there are all sort of folk walking the streets nowadays. Well, I'll be on my way now, thanks for your time. Goodnight Miss," he called to Becky .With that he left, much to my relief. I looked at Becky, and it was obvious that she too was a little shaken at the reappearance of the policeman. She came across and took my hand. " Don't be scared, they obviously have nothing to go on, no description, no motive, nothing. Just stay calm and this will probably all blow over." I didn't feel so certain about that. If it was the Doc who had phoned me earlier, then he would be expecting that I had carried out his orders. What was going to happen next........................ _________________ If you need me, I'm here. |
