Things appeared to be going from bad to worse. Now I had not only committed a murder, but I might also be blamed for these other two deaths. What the hell was I going to do to get out of this mess?

" Let's go and get some fresh air, we can sit in the park", said Becky.

I grabbed my jacket and we headed out to the park. It was a glorious day and my spirits were beginning to lift, just being in the open-air. We found a vacant bench and sat in the warm sunshine. How could one's life be changed so quickly, was the thought drifting around in my mind. From being a free man, to being a sought-after criminal, and through no fault of my own. Sure, I'd killed a man, but not with my own free will being present. I was acting under orders, much the same way has I had in Korea.

Interrupting my thoughts Becky said,
" Perhaps you could just pack your case and leave, after all, the police couldn't stop you from doing so."
" No you're right, but in doing so I might raise their suspicions, and anyway, I've nowhere to go, and very little money to spend on fares travelling. The only place I could be sure of being safe would be out of the country, and I don't think I want to leave you just yet." She smiled at this statement. " I feel the same way too", she said." What if we were to go to the police and tell them the whole story, they would have to check it out and at least they would know that you couldn't possibly have killed those two men last night."
" You're forgetting that I have killed one man though, and that you have implicated yourself by affording me an alibi with the policeman."
" I'd forgotten about that ", said Becky.

We left the park and wandered slowly around the town thinking about what we could do.
Suddenly Becky stopped, and pulling me close, she kissed me.

" I love you Tom, and no matter what happens I'll stand by you."
" Becky, you scarcely know me, and I might just be ending up in jail for a very long time."
No sooner were the words out of my mouth when a police car came cruising toward us.
I could feel Becky's grip on my hand tightening. The car stopped and the policeman opened the window.
" Hello yet again Sir," said my old friendly policemen. " Just thought you might be interested, we've caught the fellow who killed those three people. Turns out he's a doctor of sorts, a real lunatic. His secretary was the one who turned him in. Anyway Sir, I just thought you might be interested." With this parting comment they sped off leaving Becky and I flabbergasted. We looked at each other for a very long time, and then we both burst out laughing. Could this really be the end of my nightmare?
