It should be: My wife had been to see the Doctor. (Past perfect). or My wife has gone to see the Doctor. (present perfect). similarly: I had been to Turkey. Example: I had been to London to visit the Queen. * My son had been to Greece. or My son has gone to visit Greece. etc. Berlinder |

It can be, Katyufka. "My son has been to Greece" is perfectly grammatical and natural.
I'm really not sure what Berlinder was trying to say. All of Kitosdad's sentences are natural and grammatical.
On the contrary, a past perfect sentence such as "My son had been to Greece" does not sound natural without additional context to justify the use of the past perfect.

How can I to use has been and had been sentences in real conversaction? |
In everyday conversation, one of the more likely times you'll hear a past perfect form used is in a type 3 conditional sentence. For example:
- If I had studied harder for the test, my grade would have been better.
Or in a sentence with more than one clause, often in combination with the words before or after. For example:
- When I saw him at the party, I knew right away that I had met him before, but I couldn't remember his name.
('Had met' is something that happened further in the past than everything else in that sentence.)
