Hi Torsten,
Again I would like to express my interest in the New Nordhausen course, I think it would be great to work with other trainers on all the up and coming groups we have. For me obviously the 2 courses near Leipzig would be perfect but I'm happy to do some time with the other 2 groups a bit further away.
Thanks again

| I know a great apartment right next to the train station you can rent for a good price. I really enjoyed teaching in Nordhausen and especially the students. They still meet up on a regular basis. |

It was a very enjoyable first day with this group in Nordhausen. As always its a good, varied mix of experiences and backgrounds. They are very diligent and eager to learn more. I began, of course, with introductions so we could get to know a little about each other,as well as helping me understand each ss experience and level of English.
I also gave them the oppotunity to ask me questions, which they did, such things as why I came to Germany, how long I've been here, and of course "What are those?!" meaning my stilts.
We then continued with the book 'Going out' and we talked about different free-time activities and whether we like/don't like or would like/wouldn't like to do them. We also covered basic invitations.
To finish the day I handed the group a handout with 3 example flyers, which I asked questions about certain information on each. _________________ By learning you will teach; by teaching you will learn. |

Today we began with a round of 'Hangman' to help review spelling, grammar and of course the English alphabet.
I then explained the differences and similarities between English and German, Denglish, False friends etc
Reviewed Simple past and briefly looked at future using 'will' and 'going to'.
Next we compiled a list of local activities, then discussed whether we would like/or wouldn't like to do these things. Also we looked at how we invite, and how we politely refuse an invitation.
Lastly we watched a short cooking programme on my laptop and then discussed different ingredients including meats, vegetables, fruit and dairy products. _________________ By learning you will teach; by teaching you will learn. |

We began with a session of vocab. building in which I invite the participants to offer 5 new words, expressions or idioms to the group. Its always very good as it's always very random and fun which is important as a warm up.
The group then completed 2 tests on English-test.net.
We had a session of brainstorming about 'Food and ingredients'.
We carried on with the book concentrating on Countable and uncountable nouns and when to use much/many and some/any, which we did some role play situations to really understand.
Ordering in bars, recommending and suggesting and asking for things.
We compiled a list of common and important everday verbs which we put into 2 parts, regular and irregular. Then we all spoke about something important to us that happened in the past. _________________ By learning you will teach; by teaching you will learn. |

WELCOME
after I finally managed to get registered here in that topsy-turvy I would like to give you a brief overview of what we dealt with at the beginning of the NDH course.
I had the pleasure of teaching the group varying from 6-9 participants 10, 11, 17, 18 and 19 of July. They showed a good motivation as well as a wide range of previous knowledge of English. I put my focus mainly on speaking and enhancing the participants' active vocabulary. Vocabulary which they most likely would come across in everyday situations or in a job interview e.g. I distributed self-made hand-outs in which we dealt with: - BBC The Cost of living - BBC Congestion charge - BBC The Credit crunch (all accompanied by audio parts) - exercises on simple present and simple past - countries' names and nationalities - how to present o.s. - how to introduce o.s. and another person to s.o. - furthermore we did some of the exercises available here in this site. - explaining things, especially business terms, and encourage the students to try to overcome inhibitions to speak in order to make themselves understood.
It was fun for me. Cheers MATTH!AS |

Hi Matthias, Scott and Uli,
Thanks a lot for your great work. In addition to the offline exercises, please help the group use our online progress report system which enables them to keep track of their learning activities. They also might try to start using our online voice recorder to interact with an even greater variety of speakers.

Thursday and Friday
We had a really good last couple of days to end the week, with the group all starting to really enjoy the 'English only' rule in the classroom. We covered a lot of things including:
-Visiting a Doctor, explaining illness, bodyparts, medicines etc -Time expressions -Welcoming visitors -Asking questions in past, present and future forms. -Irregular verbs -Talking about plans in the future -We also wrote a recipe of our favourite meal, and reported how we made it (in the past)
Each day the group also did a minimum of 2 online 'english-test.net' tests, as well as a complete TOEIC test which highlighted to them how useful the online tests are to prepare them for their final exam. On Friday we reviewed all things we had done throughout the week, and we tried to use them in a practicle conversation situation. We also watched some English TV programmes including Dragons' Den. _________________ By learning you will teach; by teaching you will learn. |

I found this place to be very good when I taught there. He does special rates for the month - around 400 I think so a bit cheaper than the hotel and lots more space! http://www.appart-zentral-nordhausen.de/preise.html |

Hi, Cheers for the tip, it would be good if we can decide between all the trainers who will be here to share the monthly cost.
But to be honest I stay at pension Lapp which is also ok, and as its only me and I tend to stay out most evenings its perfect to put my head down.
But as I said thanks again and of course may be worth considering.
