News about players grabbing millions in return for their performance in the sports is not a big thing anymore. But the question is - do they really deserve that much? What mathematics goes behind such a large sums?
If we think from the players' point of view, they have a very short career compared to that of others. In sports demanding physical fitness, say football, it spans around 10-12 years. And it isn't the case that they play everyday as we work everyday. We also forget to notice that, unlike us they stay away from there family for a long time. They have to work hard to stay fit and travel a lot. Also there is always a risk of getting injured which could even throw them out of their profession anytime.
One of the things that is much debated, even in the middle of the playground is endorsements. It is a simple fact that faces that are popular are able to attract attention towards the otherwise non popular (read products to sale) things. And there should be nothing objectionable if a player earns more through endorsements than through his salary. Endorsements are often incorrectly considered as a part of the pay players get.
Getting back to the core of the business, the clubs or the sports organizations that make all this happen are not there to pay from their own pocket. If a football game is being watched by thousands in the stadium and millions around the globe, it is not that much difficult to imagine the source and size of the business involved. And if all this is centred at the people playing on the ground, it is not illogical to pay them a tiny share which otherwise appears a huge sum.
For the world of sports, which truely represents winning and joy, isn't payscale of our hero a small thing compared to the millions of smiles he brings in? _________________ First lesson - English, not english. I, not i. ~A student of English |

Nicely done Gray. A good sound argument. You have obviously thought long and hard about this topic and it shows.

Thanks Dimitar. You saved me from the otherwise ingrained habit of writing it as "truely" instead of "truly". _________________ First lesson - English, not english. I, not i. ~A student of English |

Hey, thanks a lot. I was away from the internet for a while. Just returned. By the way, don't you write something? I would be more than happy to read you. _________________ First lesson - English, not english. I, not i. ~A student of English |
